England.

Discover England.

England is a country that is renowned for its history and incredible versatility that draws millions of visitors and expats each year. It appeases people who love history, landscapes, adventures, pub feeds and culture alike. Whether you're looking for the hustle and bustle of the great cities or the tranquil green countryside, England can give you both of those things, and in under an hour you could go from one to the other with ease.

Transport in England.

The ability to travel to different cities with ease is something that I always look for when I am trip planning. The first few times I went to England, I used the public transport to get me around. The train network around England is fantastic, and with these you can get around quickly and often it is quite simple. Each large city has their own metro systems. These will become your lifeline when you are within the city, because walking everywhere for 12 hours everyday is just going to tire you out!

While trip planning, think about which places you'll be, and become familiar with the maps and stops before you even step foot in the country!

When I moved to England, I started off by using the metro systems. Living an hour train ride away from London, I was able to use the network of trains that bring you directly into the centre. While this was useful, it was also expensive. Traveling on Englands railways can put a hole in your pocket. If you plan on staying for a while, looking into railcards can save you 1/3 of all travel by train for just £30 a year.  Metro systems use their own cards that all must be scanned before and after your travel to get the correct fare. In London, the Oyster card is the best option, and I recommend obtaining and loading them with money in advance at the airport to avoid lines in tube stations. Buses can also be useful both within cities and traveling around, however while cheaper than trains, they often take much longer to get to their destinations.

Car travel in the UK is very efficient as you can get from big cities such as London out to small country towns and villages in a short time.  When I chose to get a car, I was relieved at how easy driving in the UK can really be. Whats more, there are limited toll points, making it easier to get around on a budget. A thought I have had since driving here however, has been "There are so many roundabouts here!". So being confident behind the wheel, especially not losing nerve while passing a car or tractor on tiny seemingly one car roads is a must.
